Indemnity for Category 2 Work

The MDS Comprehensive plan provides you with an insurance backed cover for Category 2 work.

More details about Indemnity for Category 2 work

Category 2 work is non-contractual work, done as part of your employment, and is therefore not covered under NHS Crown Indemnity. This includes fee paying work undertaken to provide additional services as below:

Examinations and reports required by a person or third party primarily to serve the interests of the person, his or her employer or other third party, in non-clinical contexts such as insurance, DVLA, superannuation, foreign travel or emigration – only if done for patients on the practice list. This does not include any private procedures which do not form part of the standard NHS contracted service.

The MDS Comprehensive plan provides you with an insurance backed cover for all category 2 work for gross income up to £5000 per annum for GPs. If your annual income from this work exceeds this amount, contact us to upgrade your cover.

Important: Category 2 cover does not include private practice and/or medico-legal reporting or expert reports commissioned on a private basis.

Indemnity Insurance: You must make sure that you have adequate and appropriate insurance or indemnity arrangements in place, covering the full scope of your medical practice in the UK.

CNSGP scheme is valid only for GPs in England and Wales. For Wales, you must be on the Wales GP register if working as Locum. For Scotland, you must ensure you are covered under CNORIS.
